Just like college, it is recommended to have a laptop as a boarder at Oakwood. The campus is equipped with Wi-Fi and instructors make use of Google Classroom. Many assignments can be accessed and submitted online. Just in case, we do have a computer lab, a few computers in the dorms, and printers available to students additionally.

The majority of all dorm rooms are doubles. Two students per room. Each dorm room accommodates each student with a bed, a dresser, a closet, a desk, and a safe.

An additional note from our Director of Residential Life:

“Students should bring clothing & footwear for all four seasons, bedding, towels, toiletries, identification, phone/computer chargers, optional dorm room decor, optional fan, preferred snacks/ beverages that will be kept in a personal bin in kitchen.
Please do not bring – space heaters, hot pots, hot plates, candles/incense, and other fire hazards.”

Twin or Twin XL sheets work for our beds!

Boarders can sign out to go off campus with a dorm parent as long as they have permission from their parents. Students can take advantage of the local shops and businesses nearby within walking distance including, Oakwood Commons, 5 Guys, Starbucks, Tea Talk Bubble Tea, Table Talk Diner, frozen yogurt, Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall, Bonsai Japanese sushi, Chinese take-out, movie theaters, cafes, supermarkets, and more.

You are able to bring those items, but must wear a helmet while using them.

Oakwood is surrounded by a variety of ATMs and banks – every weekend, boarders embark on a shopping trip which will ATMs easily accessible. We will do our best to accommodate specific bank needs and review them case by case.
