Oakwood Friends Middle School

Oakwood Friends’ Middle School offers a rich, vibrant program that provides challenging academics in a supportive and friendly school environment. The Middle School program emphasizes hands-on, experiential learning in small, student-centered classrooms. Art, photography, music and drama are integral parts of our program, as well as learning to play games and sports during PE and the afterschool program. The Middle School truly nurtures the spirit, the scholar, the artist and the athlete in each person.

Our Focus

Guided by Quaker values, Oakwood Friends School gives every student an important voice in the life of our school community. Students build deep personal identity, develop healthy friendships, and gain leadership skills. Our schedule is crafted to include time for quiet reflection as well as time for socialization and creativity. Middle School students also take part in a variety of community service projects to practice positive transformation of the world.

Connected

Close ties with the Upper School provide the benefit of a larger school and a diverse community. Middle School students attend Collection, Community Meetings and Music and Drama productions with the Upper School. Eighth grade students have the opportunity to take upper level math classes and, when appropriate, to participate in some Upper School sports.

Prepared

When eighth grade students ‘move up’ to ninth grade they have the skills and confidence needed to actively participate in Oakwood Friends’ rich Upper School curriculum and extra-curricular activities and to be active and positive members of their wider world communities.
