Gary Dale Burns

Gary is both a poet and an educator, though he first wanted to be an astronaut. He was raised in the LDS church (Mormons) and began his poetic practice at age 13 while it took until 33 to begin his educational practice. He moved to the Hudson Valley for graduate school with his partner Gillian and has worked as an activities coordinator, grocery store clerk, bartender, server, bookseller, drive-in theater attendant, substitute, tutor, and teacher. When not teaching, he works with Gillian to finish their Skoolie project and enjoys bicycle rides, playing guitar, karaoke, bowling, and self-publishing. At Oakwood, he hopes to share his skills and learn new ones as part of a community of learners and educators collaborating together in this experience called life.
