Jonathan Heiles
Jonathan Heiles is a science teacher in the Upper School. This year his classes include Chemistry, Advanced Physics and American Sign Language learning. Prior to joining Oakwood Friends, Jonathan taught in the high school of Poughkeepsie Day School where he offered classes in Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Astronomy, Introductory Quantum and Relativistic Theory, Physics of Light and Sound, Astrobiology and Seismology over the course of three decades. He was a fellow at the New York Center for Astrobiology’s Teachers’ Academy. He worked on several projects as an educational assessment specialist, including developing rubrics for the Next Generation Science Standards. Outside of school Jonathan has a secondary career as a performing teller of traditional tales, bakes extensively, donates platelets frequently and pursues his interests in board and role-playing games.
Education: SUNY Binghamton BS in geology and graduate work in geology and writing at SUNY New Paltz and in educational assessment at SUNY Albany
